el próximo martes 7 de octubre a las 16 hrs Sebastien Aumaitre hará un seminario sobre los resultados del experimento Dinamo del equipo VKS. Este trabajo muestra por primera vez en un flujo turbulento la inestabilidad Dínamo en un líquido conductor. Se piensa que esta inestabilidad es la responsable del campo magnético en diversos planetas y estrellas.

Dynamical regimes in an experimental turbulent dynamo

The dynamo action is assumed to be the driven mechanism of most of the magnetic field observed in the astronomical systems. Here we will present experimental results about the dynamo effect in Van Karman Sodium experiment. Indeed, this experiment was the first able to generate a magnetic field from an unconstrained turbulent flow. Moreover, depending on the driving parameters, various dynamical regimes have been observed. Surprisingly, some of them share strong similarities with the earth magnetic reversals and sun magnetic oscillations. Despite their apparent complex behaviors, most of these dynamical features seem to be understood within the framework of low dimensional systems.
